$99 to start. Then $29/month for access to all courses

About this Course

The age of robots is upon us. They are in our homes, in our workplace, and all around us in the form of drones, driverless cars, heavy duty machinery, etc. This two-part course introduces you to the world of robots, the mechanics behind them, and what it takes to build a robot from scratch.

In TH 201: Robotics & Mechatronics, you will learn how to build a WiFi-controlled robot and bring it to life.  You will learn fundamental theory, modeling methods, hardware components, interfacing requirements, simulation and programming tools, and practical applications of robotics and mechatronics. You’ll also learn about infrared waves and create your own web server using HTML and CSS. Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be prepared to take the next course: Course 202: Smart Home Technology where you’ll learn how to build a WiFi light switch.

Topics covered

The Project

WIFI-ENABLED ROBOT KIT

You’ll assemble the base of the robot and connect it to the WiFi chip to control it remotely from a phone, tablet, or computer.

Create a web server

Use WiFI to create a web server that allows you to wirelessly control your bot. You’ll use HTML and CSS to format your server.

CUstomize your robot

When your robot is constructed, you’ll learn how to customize it by using RGB lights and buzzer modules to turn your bot into a car.

Frequently asked questions

General

Thimble is an online academy that makes it possible for students to take classes in robotics, coding, and game design taught by real teachers and industry professionals.

Project-based kits are delivered every three months to create a hands-on experience for students. Video lessons are available anytime, anywhere on your smartphone, tablet, or smart computer.

Membership includes access to unlimited classes taught by real teachers and industry professionals on robotics, computer science, and game design.

Each class includes around 10 video lessons that are 15 minutes long on average, along with a project-based kit that’s delivered every 3 months. Students participate in contests and live build-along sessions with surprise guests. You also get access to offline lessons, our members-only newsletter, and our dynamic community of students and parents around the world.

Thimble is for students ages 10+ (or grades 4+)

All students start with Course 101 which is an introduction to engineering and computer science. We believe all students need the basics before moving on to more advanced material.

Your child’s first kit arrives several days after you become a member. You’ll receive another kit every 3 months.

You’re at the right place! We created Thimble to teach beginners a basic understanding of robotics, computer science, and game design. We assume they have no prior knowledge.

On average, a class takes 4-6 weeks to complete. However, lessons were designed so students learn at their own pace.

Live build-along classes are held once a week to cover advanced topics. Live classes will also include special guests which include industry professionals from top tech and video game companies around the world.

Pricing & Payment

The membership is $99 to join then it’s $29 / month which provides unlimited access to all classes, live build-alongs, and new classes as they launch. Project-based kits are delivered every three months.
