Welcome to TH 202 / 203
An Introduction to Robotics & Mechatronics (Part I & II)
(4) mini-projects designed for quick wins and teaching the basics of robotics and mechatronics:
This course provides interdisciplinary education to students through coursework, experiential learning, and project-based work. Students will learn fundamental theory, modeling methods, hardware components, interfacing requirements, simulation and programming tools, and practical applications of mechatronics and robotics. Upon successful completion of this course, students will construct a WiFi-controlled robot, remote controller, pen plotter, and robotic arm.
NGSS Standards: MS-ETS1-1, MS-ETS1-2, MS-ETS1-3, MS-ETS1-4
Duration:
2 hours per project
Prerequisite:
TH 201
Mini-Project #1
WiFi Controlled Robot
In this project, you’ll assemble the base of the robot and connect it to WiFi to control it remotely. You’ll learn about infrared waves and create your own web server using HTML and CSS.
Mini-Project #2
Remote Controller
Control your WiFi robot by building a controller to drive it around. Learn the basic kinematics and communication protocol behind robot control systems.
Mini-Project #3
Pen Plotter
Improve the robot with drawing capabilities. Use pre-programmed logic to make shapes. Or take it to the next level with mathematical calculations to make your shapes picture perfect.
Mini-Project #4
Robotic Arm
Build a 3-axis robot arm and attach it to your robot. Learn the advanced kinematics behind controlling something in 3D space.
